Sony came out fighting in their press conference, obliterating their rivals, Microsoft, when it came to DRM, used games, and the price of their console. We also finally got a chance to
see the new Sony console in all it's parallelogram glory. I've listed the keys points from the conference below:
- PS4 supports used games - you can trade in the game, sell it to someone else, lend it to a friend or keep it forever. This comes as welcome news considering Microsoft's stance on this subject.
- You don't need to be connected online to play games you bought the disc for.
- There is no online check-in system
- Gaikai was briefly spoken of - they reminded us that we will be able to play games that are still being downloaded in the background, chat across different games, and transition to a friend's network based on real-world friends. However, Gaikai won't be available immediately - it will be available in the US first in 2014.
- Playstation Plus memberships will transfer over to PS4 - at "less than $5" a month members will benefit from:
- Discounted games
- Cloud saves
- Automatic game updates
- Early access to beta programs
- Instant game collection
- Online multiplayer
- PS Plus members will also receive free access to one of the PS4's launch titles, Driveclub: PS Plus Edition as part of the instant game collection
- PS4 launches around Christmas time 2013 and it's priced at $399, €399, and £349
